| | | Greetings Upstate Brewtopians: | | The June meeting took place on June 12 at Thomas Creek. Many thanks to the Thomas Creek crew for hosting us and for allowing everyone access to the beer wall. The June meeting featured an open beer competition plus the 2nd Annual BBQ challenge. As an added bonus, we were joined by a reporter doing an article on the Brewtopians for new magazine here to the upstate called Edible Upcountry. You can pre-order your subscription here: www.edibleupcountry.com | | | | The beer list was respectable, with 12 beer entries plus a few meads. The “applausometer” narrowed the list down to two beers, but a group outcry demanded that Twister’s Caribou Dribble Brown should be included in the final round. As you might expect, Twister took home the Coveted Beer Mug pendant. | | | | An Upstate Brewtopian Historical Note: For those new to the club, you may not realize that Twister is the club founder. From 1999 to 2003, we met at his place of business on the square in Pendleton. We began the now familiar practice of hosting meetings in homes in August 2003. Twister set the sacred 2pm start time, which has never changed. | | | | There were three entries in the BBQ challenge. Hangto won with her BBQ chicken. Brewboy’s BBQ ribs and Hophead’s pulled pork were also excellent. The July meeting will be in Easley on July 17 at the home of World History Brewer. Directions and other instructions will be posted the week prior to the meeting. The July meeting is open, so bring whatever you’ve been brewing. To the folks who volunteered for August and October, please send a confirmation to admin@upstatebrewtopians.com. Keep Brewing! | | | | June Beer List Stout, Oak Stout, IPA, Wheat, Hugh Hefe, Caribou Dribble Brown, Blueberry Ale, Rye Pale, Bitter, Vanilla Pale, South Carolina Pale Ale, Sour Ale, Ginger Mead, Plain Mead | | | |
